DONALDSON – Ancilla's Chargers were unable to hold a lead in an MCCAA doubleheader at Charger Field Thursday, falling by scores of 9-5 and 17-3 to Kalamazoo Valley Community College.
The Chargers led in both games – fighting back to take a 5-3 lead in the fourth of game one and jumping to a quick 2-0 lead in game two but couldn't hold either lead, with the Cougars fighting back for two in the fifth and putting away the win in game one with a four run sixth.
Jacob Roberson (Whiteland High School) took the loss in relief of Alex Nelson (Ben Davis High School) in game one. Ancilla was led offensively by Matt Williams' (Concord High School) two hit, two RBI game one, Elijah Nixon (Plymouth High School) added a pair of hits.
Ancilla jumped to a quick two runs in their half of inning one in game two when Caleb Heckaman (Warsaw High School) led off the game with a double, setting the tone. Valley lefty Zane Gonzalez righted the ship and held on for the win. Cody Huston (Union High School) takes the loss leaving the game in the second. The Chargers were still within three at 5-2 in the sixth but a nine run seventh broke the game open for the Cougars.
The Chargers play a weekend series with the Ontario Blue Jays with a doubleheader on Saturday and a single game Sunday.
