DONALDSON, IN – The Ancilla College Women's Soccer Team defeated Lake Michigan College on Wednesday 6-0 bringing their record to 4-7 and putting them in the driver's seat for the fourth spot in the regional tournament.
"It was the tale of two halves," commented Head Coach Justin Crew. "We started slow and did not play well in the first 45 minutes. The second half however, was a different story."
Amanda Heckaman started the scoring off for the Chargers with an assist from Anita Garza. Not long after Ancilla was on the board, Garza put the team up 2-0. Woodlyn Robust made it 3-0 and shortly after, Heckaman would score again to make it 4-0. Garza tacked on two more goals to make it 6-0 and she finished with three goals and an assist for the evening.
"I was very happy to get another win. This was a very important win for us because it was a conference win," said Crew. "I was proud of our second half performance but still disappointed in the first half of the game."
Coach Crew said that Heckaman, Robuste, and Garza really stood out not only for their score contributions, but their overall work rate. "These three players never stopped working even when the game was in hand," said Crew.
Frey Hunt also had a great game Coach Crew said leading the backline and helping the team get another clean sheet. "She is a bit of an unsung hero," remarked Crew. "Goal scorers usually get all the attention, but Freya is a big reason we have had back to back shutouts."
Ancilla will play home this weekend for the Chargers homecoming against Muskegon Community College. Game time is set for 3:00p.m.
