DONALDSON, IN – On Thursday, November 17th, the Charger Wrestling Team faced off against Indiana Tech JV where they were defeated with a final score of 24-12 and on Saturday, November 19th, the Chargers wrestled in the Findlay Open.
"Once again, this meet was closer than the final score would indicate," said Ancilla Head Coach Steve VanDerAa. "Our wrestlers are improving day by day and the lineup has been fluid during the early season as the team tries to find the best weight class to be competitive and help the team score."
John Stewart saw his first action as a Chargers and did not disappoint the hometown fans. He came out on fire and finished with a first period pin. Also winning for Ancilla was Tondrew Tyler who picked up his first ever college win. Joining Tyler in the win column with a hard-earned win was D'Angelo Scott. "These two had to fight the entire seven minutes to outlast their opponents," commented VanDerAa.
"As a team we continue to improve. However, we need to improve at a faster rate than our opponents improve. Even the wrestlers that came up on the short end of the score worked very hard to keep Ancilla in the hunt until the end. Trayshawn Jones had several crowd pleasing tosses out of bounds to keep the crowd's hope of a comeback in check until the final match. We are heading in the right direction." Remarked VanDerAa.
On Saturday, the team traveled to Ohio for the Findlay Open where the best wrestlers in Ohio faced off. Ancilla pulled off several big wins. In Jason Jude's first match of the season, he scored a Tech Fall, winning by 15 points.
"He totally dominated in his first time out from start to finish. He will have many victories as a Charger throughout the rest of the season," said VanDerAa.
Hector Flores picked up his second win of the season and also his first college pin in his first round. Tyler earned his second college win in a row and Trayshawn Jones earned his first college win as he picked up his first pin as well. Jordan Rogers also added another win to the books leading the team in wins for the season with four.
The Chargers will travel to Wabash for the Little Indiana Tournament on Saturday, December 3rd.
