DONALDSON, IN – Neither Freezing temperatures nor snow showers could not put a damper on Ancilla College's first ever lacrosse game as the Chargers opened the contest scoring 12 consecutive goals en route to a 27-2 win over the University of Findlay at the Kroc Center Turf Field on Saturday.
Attackman Blake Alexander led Ancilla (1-0) with 10 goals and 4 assists, while Anthony Vercelli and Cole Reuben each tallied four goals apiece. The Chargers went into the half leading the Oilers 15-2 and closed out the game on a 14-0 run.
"What a great way to begin your first ever contest with a win in convincing fashion, said Head Coach Brian Welch. The guys did all the little things right that my coaching staff and I harped on all preseason and it paid off. Our on ball and off ball movement on offense worked to perfection and they didn't force the issue in trying to make the spectacular pass. We won the ground ball game and possessed the ball on our side of the field over 90% of the game. If you do those two things every game, you're going to win the majority of those contests."
Zach Schultz was spectacular at the X on faceoffs winning 16 of 17, while Jessee Holt won 4 of 7 for the Chargers. Stevie Nelson and Tyler Stringfellow spearheaded the defense by collecting 17 and 14 ground balls a piece.
Goalie Zayne Hartz ended up with five saves on the day and was instrumental on in the clearing game as the Chargers were a perfect five for five.
The Chargers will be heading out East for four contests during Spring Break, with Potomac State College first up on the slate on Saturday, March 4th at noon.
