ALLENDALE, MI – The Ancilla College Cheerleading Team traveled to Allendale, MI on Sunday where they competed in the Laker Cheer Classic at Grand Valley State University and placed second in the co-ed division.
For the final performance of the 2016-17 season, the Chargers faced off against Grand Valley State University and Michigan Tech, both four year programs. The team performed their two minute and fifteen second routine consisting of choreographed stunting, jumping, pyramid building, tumbling, and dance and only received one point in deductions.
"I was impressed with our performance," said Head Coach Kaylee Feece. "We were the only two year school at the competition and the only program not from Michigan. I believe we really left our mark. While there were only three teams in our division, there were nine teams there total. I think they were all really impressed with our performance. I was proud of the team for taking second, especially to Grand Valley State who are consistently named National Champions year after year."
The Laker Cheer Classic wrapped up the season for the Chargers and left them with an outstanding performance record including Grand Champion (CheerMax Competition Cincinnati, OH), Runner- Up (JamFest Cheer Super Nationals Indianapolis, IN), Runner-Up (Saints Showdown at Aquinas College), Third in the Nation (CheerLtd Canam College Nationals), National Champion Co-ed Stunt Champion (CheerLtd Canam College Nationals), Runner-Up Co-Ed Stunt Group (CheerLtd Canam College Nationals), and Runner-Up (Laker Cheer Classic).
"This team has had a wonderful season. They have really worked hard for all they have accomplished and it has been such an honor to get to coach them," said Feece. "They said their goals high this year and with every adversity, they kept getting stronger. They have a lot to be proud of."
