DONALDSON, IN - Darren Gallagher has been named as head coach of the Ancilla College men's soccer program.
Gallagher has coached at the college level for six years. He was head coach for two years with Indiana University men's club team and spent two seasons as the men's soccer assistant at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. He returned to the UW-Oshkosh program after serving as an assistant coach at Ripon College in 2005 and 2006.
Athletic Director, Gene Reese had this to say about the new coach. "I am excited to have hired a soccer coach like Darren that is so experienced in soccer. The soccer program at Ancilla is one of our most competitive programs in the recent past and we have a great returning class of sophomores which means that the tradition should continue. I think that with Darren at the helm, we should continue to see fantastic soccer for years to come."
While playing soccer at UW-Oshkosh from 2001-04, the defender helped the Titans to a 59-13-6 record and three NCAA Division III postseason appearances. In 2003, the Mukwonago High School graduate was a starter on the back line of a UW-Oshkosh defense that allowed 8 goals; including 16 shutouts. The 2003 squad posted an impressive 21-1 record and advanced to the Final Four round of the NCAA Division III Championship.
"I would like to thank Director of Athletics Gene Reese and the Ancilla College administration for giving me the opportunity to continue to be a part of the Charger family," said Gallagher. "I feel truly blessed and humbled to have the chance to continue building a great tradition on the field and in the classroom."
Gallagher has been a member of the NSCAA since 2007, and has already earned his USSF National "B" License and his National Youth License. He received his bachelor's degree in Physical Education from UW-Oshkosh in 2006 and earned a master's degree in Educational Leadership in 2009.
NCAA Division III National Coach of the Year (2000), Toby Bares, had this to say, "Darren will not only bring knowledge of the sport but a passion for his player's development as soccer players and future leaders within the community. I have no doubts he will be a tremendous addition to Ancilla - the future is bright!"
In more than a decade Darren Gallagher has coached 1 NSCAA All-American, 2 NSCAA High School All-American, 6 NSCAA All-Region. He has also played/coached in 2 WIAA State (Mukwonago), 2 WI State Cup Finals (NEW United), 4 NCAA tournaments (including 1 Sweet Sixteen and 1 Final Four - UW-Oshkosh).
