Following a strong showing last Saturday, in which the Marian University Ancilla Men's Basketball team was able to knock off a very good Grand Rapids squad, they turned to Lake Michigan College Wednesday night. The Red Hawks entered the contest with an 0-4 MCCAA conference record, but despite their start to conference play, they proved to be quite the challenge for the Chargers, leading 46-43 at the half. But a big second half helped propel Marian Ancilla to the 93-84 victory and a 4-2 standing in the conference thus far.
Sophomore forward Jayden Sanders came up big in this game, scoring 28 points on 12-16 shooting, including a 4-4 performance from downtown. He added 11 rebounds for his 8th double-double of the season. Freshman guard Jordan Woods added his 9th double-double of the season, scoring 17 points and dishing out 12 assists, while chipping in 5 rebounds and 4 steals to the effort.
Freshman guard Matt King had another big offensive night as well, scoring 22 points, plus he added 5 rebounds, including 3 at the offensive end of the floor. 6-8 Freshman forward Davione Doty was a 4th double-digit scorer, contributing 12 points on 5-6 shooting from the field.
The Chargers finish their first time through the conference schedule this Saturday, when they head to Kellogg Community College. They play the back end of a double-header with the Women's team, so look for the Men's game to start at approximately 3:00 p.m. Please come out and support the Chargers, if you are able!!
