The Marian University Plymouth Athletic Department would like to take this time to announce our on-campus awards for the 2025-2026 academic year. We are doing this now in order to make sure that all of the Spring sports were able to finish their seasons, and to allow the administrators and coaches who vote on these awards the proper time to consider all candidates. With that said, below are your Charger award winners for 2025-2026.
FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR
Aaliyah Keil, Sophomore - Keil was named to the MCCAA's Western Conference 2nd Team for Women's Basketball this year after averaging 11.4 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.9 steals per game. She was also named to the MCCAA's Western Conference All-Defensive Team in Women's Basketball. On the track, Aaliyah showed record-setting speed, running a school record 1:03.81 in the 400m hurdles at the "last chance" track meet to qualify for the NJCAA National Track Meet. She then placed 22nd of 28 runners at the National meet in New Mexico. The 5-7 multisport athlete came to Marian Plymouth following her graduation from Highland High School.
MALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR
Hunter Zdyb, Sophomore - Zdyb had another outstanding year on the golf course, racking up more awards to put on his shelf. To begin with, he won Golfer of the Week for the MCCAA's Western Conference in consecutive weeks. He then finished 2nd at the MCCAA Western Conference Championship and was named to the All-Conference Team in the MCCAA's Western Conference. Finally, he ran away from the field at the Region 12 Qualifier, as he was the only golfer to score under par. Not only that, he was under par in each of his three rounds, posting a final score of 6-under par. This helped him find a spot on the NJCAA Region 12 All-Region Team. Hunter attended Marian Plymouth following graduation at nearby New Prairie High School.
COMEBACK ATHLETE OF THE YEAR
Owen Negron, Redshirt Freshman - Following a 2024-2025 season that saw him sidelined due to injury, Negron responded on the baseball field as a Redshirt Freshman, earning Second Team All-Conference Honors in the MCCAA's Western Conference, plus he was named to the Western Conference's All-Freshman team. Hailing from Loiza, Puerto Rico, Negron was the Chargers' most consistent hitter and best power hitter all season. Negron hit .320 at the plate, he roped 6 doubles, and he had a team high 4 home runs, to go along with an impressive 35 runs batted in over 43 games played.
TEAM OF THE YEAR
Women's Basketball - The "Chargettes", as they liked to be called, put together their 3rd 20-win season over the past four years, finishing with a 20-10 record overall. They qualified for their 3rd postseason appearance in that same span and traveled to Mott Community College once again to participate in the Region 12 National Qualifier. Even more impressively, of the eight Charger Sophomores on this year's team, seven have committed to continue their college basketball journeys at 4-year schools with one player headed to an NCAA Division II school and six others comitting to NAIA institutions.
