Just a couple of weeks ago, as they were nearing their much-needed holiday break, the Marian Ancilla Men's Basketball team traveled to #25 Oakland Community College and found themselves on the short end of a 101-84 decision, a loss that saw the Owls knock down 16 of their 35 3-point attempts and make 54% of their shots in total. Yesterday afternoon, however, the Chargers were much more determined defensively, as they led most of the game in a 91-72 win against that same Oakland team.
The Chargers limited Oakland to just 5-22 from 3-point range yesterday afternoon, they held them to 41% shooting overall, plus Marian Ancilla became the hot team from the perimeter, knocking down 18-36 bombs of their own from deep. They also assisted on 23 of their 32 field goals and out-rebounded the Owls by a 38-29 margin.
MUAC Freshman guard Jordan Woods had a monster game with a triple-double, scoring 14 points, pulling down 14 rebounds, and handing out 10 assists. Woods was the main catalyst last time against Oakland, scoring 40 points, so the Owls were determined to limit him yesterday. However, he did a nice job of contributing in other ways and finding open teammates consistently.
Marian Ancilla Freshman guards Matt King and Kenneth Grant each scored 18 points, plus they combined for 11 3-pointers on just 19 attempts between the two of them. King also collected 6 caroms in the big win. Sophomore forward Jayden Sanders was another Charger in double digits, scoring 14 points and picking up 4 boards of his own.
The Charger Men's Basketball team has one last non-conference game Tuesday evening against a very good Henry Ford program out of Detroit. They are scheduled to tip at 7:30 p.m. at the LifePlex Tuesday, January 7th, before they move on to MCCAA play against Southwestern Michigan on Saturday as part of a double-header with the Women's team. Please come out and support the Chargers, if you are able!!
