Vikings Pitching Too Much For Chargers

Once again, Tuesday (4/22) the Marian University Ancilla Softball team was involved in a makeup game due to weather. It has been that kind of Spring for the Chargers, and this time they faced the Glen Oaks Vikings for the third time this season. The Vikings won both games yesterday, 14-1 & 7-4, but the Chargers put up a nice fight in the second contest of the day. Below is a quick look at some highlights from each matchup.

GAME-1 (L 14-1): The Vikings exploded out of the gate in this one, posting 13 of their 14 runs in the first 3 innings. The combination of 5 extra base hits and 4 Charger errors helped their efforts. For Marian Ancilla, Freshman Tennley Werner had the lone hit, while Freshman Morgan Fogle drove in the only run of the game. Sophomore Samantha Hoffman (0-10) was assigned the loss, while Freshman Madison Lowe pitched 3 innings of relief, allowing just 1 earned run.

GAME-2 (L 7-4): The second game of the day was much more competitive. Glen Oaks scored 2 runs in the top of the 2nd inning to take the initial lead. But, in the bottom of the 3rd, the Chargers answered back with 3 runs to go ahead 3-2. Glen Oaks regained the lead with 2 more runs in the top of the 4th inning, but the Chargers tied the game at 4-4 by scoring another tally in the bottom of that same inning. From there, Glen Oaks score again in the 5th and twice in the 6th, while MUAC failed to cross home plate again.

Sophomore Abigail Heaston hit a pair of singles to top the Chargers, while Freshman Kimberly Cummings drove in a pair of runs. Freshmen Cayla Beasley and Tennley Werner also drove in runs, while Beasley also stole a base. Cummings (4-7) pitched all 7 innings, striking out 7 batters along the way.

As the softball team's season winds down, they take to the diamond again tomorrow, Thursday, when they head to Coloma High School in Michigan to take on Lake Michigan College in a double-header that has been moved up from 5/2/25 due to graduation conflicts. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m., with the second game to follow. Please come out to support these young ladies, if you are able, as they only have a handful of games remaining!!
