LANSING (MI) - After a couple of days off following their opening weekend, the Marian University Ancilla Softball team traveled to Lansing Community College for a double-header Tuesday afternoon. While they fell 2-1 and 7-5, the Chargers played much better, getting a great pitching performance in the first game and finding their swings in the later matchup. Below are some highlights from the pair of games.
GAME-1 (L 2-1): Sophomore pitcher Kim Cummings got them started with a great performance from the pitcher's circle. She allowed just 2 earned runs through 5 innings, and she struck out 8 batters. On the year, she holds a 3.57 ERA while amassing 26 strikeouts in just 15 2/3 innings pitched. Cummings was also 2-for-3 from the plate, smacking a pair of doubles.
Freshman Abby Harmon and Sophomore Morgan Fogle also doubled for the Chargers, while Sophomore Cayla Beasley and Freshman Ryleigh Reiblich each hit singles in game-1. Freshman pitcher Christina Grabowski pitched an inning of scoreless relief, allowing just 1 hit while striking out a batter.
GAME-2 (L 7-5): The Chargers found themselves down 2-0 after the first inning, but they plated 4 runs in the top of the 3rd inning to go ahead 4-2. Lansing then scored 4 runs between the 3rd and the 4th innings, before the teams traded a run in the 6th inning for the final 7-5 outcome. Freshman Mickalya Naanos was the standout this game, as she belted a home run and drove in 2 runs for Marian Ancilla. Naanos also pitched the final 2 innings, allowing just 1 earned run.
Kim Cummings and Ryleigh Reiblich each doubled, with Cummings driving in a run. Abby Harmon and Cayla Beasley were responsible for driving in the other two runs, while Harmon, Freshman Samanta Mendoza, Morgan Fogle, and Freshman Lauren Bruce all contributed with singles.
New Head Coach Izzy Johnson saw some improvements throughout Tuesday's action, "In the first game, Kim Cummings gave us a chance with a strong pitching performance. I thought in the second game, Mickayla Naanos gave us good pop in the middle of the lineup and helped us rally to take the lead. Defensively, I was happy we were able to play error-free ball all day."
