PLYMOUTH (IN) - When you are just a couple of games behind in a conference race, the best way to catch up is to take down #1. That was the situation the Marian University Ancilla Women's Basketball team had in front of them Wednesday night when they hosted the Lansing Stars (now 9-0 in the MCCAA). Unfortunately, a 2nd quarter scoring drought that saw the Chargers lose the period, 17-4, contributed heavily to a 61-41 loss, dropping them to 4th Place in the standings with just 3 conference games remaining.
The urgency was obvious with their play, and they even held Lansing scoreless for the first 3:00 of the second quarter, but shots just didn't want to fall for the Chargers over those 10 minutes. Still, with three wins over their final three MCCAA games, and the Marian Ancilla Women's team can find themselves as high as 2nd Place, depending on how other league matchups shake out over the next two weeks.
In this game, Sophomore Santana Eubanks was the most productive, scoring 14 points and pulling down 16 rebounds, 5 of which came at the offensive end of the floor. Freshman Emma Nelson added 7 points and 6 rebounds, while Sophomore Ciara Bonner contributed 7 points and 4 rebounds from a guard spot.
The Chargers must now turn to facing the team currently in 2nd Place...Grand Rapids Community College. That game will be tomorrow (2/14), Valentine's Day, at the LifePlex in Plymouth. Tip time is set for 1:00p, so please come out and bring the noise for these ladies, if you are able, as they have a great opportunity to make up some ground on the Western Division leaders with a win!!
