Council Bluffs (IA) - Friday, March 6th, and Saturday, March 7th, the NJCAA hosted their National Championships for Men's & Women's Wrestling at the Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Charger Freshman Wrestler Andy Warren qualified to attend this prestigious event, and despite not advancing, he performed admirably as an unranked contestant.
Warren competed in the 197-pound weight class, and in Round-1 he drew a bye due to the number of wrestlers in the class and where the seeding fell. In Round-2 (the round of 32), however, he took on 10th seeded Aiden Ford of Big Bend Community College (WA). Warren was able to take Ford the full three rounds but fell 18-4 in a hard-fought matchup.
Moving over to the other side of the bracket, Warren again received a bye in his first slotted time before facing Jason Osgood of Cowley County Community College (KS). Warren was once again able to take the match the full distance but lost by a final score of 8-1. Osgood entered the event unranked but finished 7th overall, so he was definitely a top opponent.
MUAC Head Wrestling Coach Ben Ennis had this to say about Warren, "Andy fought hard this season and represented MUAC with great sportsmanship and honor. We are beyond proud of all the hard work Andy has put in this season, as well as the success and accomplishments he has achieved, like being a National qualifier. We are looking forward to seeing what next season has in store for this young man."
Congratulations, Andy, on a fine end to the season!! The entire Marian Ancilla community is happy for you and proud of you!! We are all excited to see what you can accomplish next season!!
