Following a week and a half layoff, the Marian University Ancilla Volleyball team returned to action Tuesday night when they traveled to Piqua, Ohio, to take on the also-named Chargers of Edison State Community College. Edison State has proven their worth recently, finishing last season 20-14, while beginning this year 8-1 prior to their matchup with MUAC. Tuesday night, they got the better of Marian Ancilla, 3-0.
The first set saw the younger MUAC Chargers show a few nerves, but they battled throughout and found their footing toward the end of the set. They countered with a strong second set, leading by as much as 14-11 midway though the period but eventually fell 25-20 as they just couldn't close it out. In the third set, the Edison State Chargers meant business and finished off the MUAC Chargers 25-11 behind strong play from their hitters.
Marian Ancilla is at the beginning of one of their busiest weeks of the season, as they have six matches over six days, with this being the first. They will next travel to Wilbur Wright College in Chicago on Thursday (9/4), followed by a weekend showcase at South Suburban College on Saturday (9/6) and Sunday (9/6) where they will take on host South Suburban (IL), in addition to the College of Lake County (IL), Milwaukee Area Technical College (WI), and Highland Community College (IL). The Chargers return home for the first time since August 21st, when they host Grace College's JV team next Thursday, September 11th. Please come out and support the Chargers, if you are able!
