BREWTON (AL) - It's that time of year again...the Marian University Ancilla Baseball season has begun as the Chargers traveled to Alabama over the weekend to take on Coastal Alabama-North in a 4-game, 2-day double-header. Even though the Chargers didn't get the outcomes they were looking for, the Coyotes were the 1998 NJCAA National Champions and were the NJCAA Region 22 Champions as recently as 2024, so they were a worthy opponent to open with. Below is a quick look at a few highlights from this weekend's action.
2/6 Game-1 (L 16-2 in 5): In the top of the 5th inning, Redshirt Freshman Javier Higham pinch hit and reached via single for the team's lone hit. Higham would later score as the Chargers would earn 2 bases loaded walks by Redshirt Freshman Owen Negron and Freshman Cade Quick later that inning. Sophomore pitcher Dylan Ford struck out 3 in an inning and a third.
2/6 Game-2 (L 22-2 in 5): In the top of the 2nd inning, Sophomore Aayden Antoine led off the inning with a walk, then Sophomore Evan Lanphier followed with a single. Sophomore Jaxson Hixson would later drive in Antoine, followed by Sophomore Logan Clark driving in Lanphier with a single of his own.
2/7 Game-1 (L 16-2 in 7): The Chargers got some rest Friday night and woke up to 7 hits in this one. Sophomore Aayden Antoine and Freshmen Devon Ortiz and Linardy Rodriguez each managed 2 hits apiece for the navy & gold. Antoine knocked a double as one of his hits, while Rodriguez drove in a run. Freshman Andrew Kerschner added a single, while Sophomore Jose Paris walked and stole a base. Charger pitchers also combined to strike out 9 batters in just 6 innings of work.
2/7 Game-2 (L 19-4 in 7): Marian Ancilla continued to find Saturday success at the plate, collecting 6 hits, walking 4 times, and scoring 4 runs in this contest. Freshman Devon Ortiz and Sophomore Jose Paris each had a single and a double for 2 hits apiece. Sophomore Aayden Antoine picked up another hit, while Redshirt Freshman Javier Higham added his second hit of the weekend and drove in a run. Sophomore Logan Clark and Freshman Cayden Nolan were each credited with an RBI as well.
The MUAC Baseball team now takes a week to prepare for another 4-game weekend, as they head to Hocking College in Nelsonville, Ohio, this coming Saturday and Sunday, February 14th & 15th. The Chargers next play in Lafayette, Indiana, February 20th & 21st, and then they take off on their annual Spring Break trip to Florida March 1st through 7th, before returning to Plymouth for their home opener on March 9th. Please come out and support the team, when you are able!!
