LAFAYETTE (IN) - As the Marian University Ancilla Baseball team prepares for its annual trip to Florida, they have racked up 10 games now in order to get some at-bats and throw the ball around a little before they travel South. Friday, they hosted a double-header with Milwaukee Area Technical College at beautiful Loeb Stadium in Lafayette, Indiana. Even though Friday the 13th was a little over a week ago, the Stormers didn't care, as they posted 13s in each game, on the way to a 13-4, 13-3 sweep over the Chargers. Below is a quick look at some key notes from each game.

2/20 GAME-1 (L 13-4): The Chargers got the first run on the board in the bottom of the 1st inning when Sophomore Logan Clark singled on a ground ball to right, then advanced to second base on an error. Two batters later, Redshirt Freshman Owen Negron hit another single to right field, scoring Clark, and it was 1-0 Marian Ancilla. However, in the top of the 2nd inning with 1 out, a series of 3 singles, a triple, a walk, and 3 errors, capped off by a sacrifice fly, not necessarily in that order, helped the Stormers amass 8 runs and an early 8-1 lead.

In the top of the 3rd, MATC would again use the Chargers' misfortunes against them, as they grouped together 3 walks, a triple, and a wild pitch to extend their lead to 11-1. Marian Ancilla would respond, however, in the bottom of the 4th inning. Sophomore Jose Paris led off with a walk, Sophomore Aiden Marcus hit a fly ball single to left field, then Negron reached safely on a fielder's choice attempt that was unsuccessful, and the bases were loaded. Sophomore Aayden Antoine then hit into another fielder's choice, but Paris was able to score from third base, and it was 11-2. The very next batter, Sophomore Evan Lanphier, continued his hot hitting as he crushed a line drive triple to center field, scoring Negron and Antoine, and the gap was narrowed to 11-4.

The Stormers would add 2 more runs in the top of the 5th inning to complete all scoring, securing the 13-4 win. Freshman Jaylan Yates (0-1) took his first loss in this young season, but only 3 of his 11 runs allowed were earned. Freshman Michael Fry appeared in relief and managed 4.2 innings with 0 earned runs allowed and struck out 6 batters. Freshman Devon Ortiz hit a nice double in the bottom of the 5th inning in a non-scoring situation.

2/20 GAME-2 (L 13-3 in 6 innings): In the second game of the twin bill, the teams switched roles as home and guest, with Marian University Ancilla now leading off. And they got to work immediately. With 1 out in the top of the 1st inning, Sophomore Kaleb Short hit a pop up single over the first baseman with Sophomore Aiden Marcus hitting a hard ground ball single to right filed (short was able to move over to third base). Marcus would then steal second base to place two in scoring position, and then Sophomore Aayden Antoine roped a line drive double to right field, scoring Short and Marcus and it was 2-0 early.

Over the course of all 6 innings, however, Milwaukee Tech would score in each inning, with 3 runners crossing in each of the 1st and 2nd innings, 1 scoring in each of the 3rd and 4th innings, then they scored 3 more in the 5th inning and 2 in the 6th inning, to end the game early, 13-3.

The Chargers did find more offense in the top of the 5th inning, when Sophomore Logan Clark led off with a walk, then advanced to second base on a wild pitch. Next, Short walked, then Freshman Layne Harman got his first hit of his young career on a bunt single to short, with Clark coming around to score on the throw to first base. Harman would also get his first career stolen base later in the inning. Freshman Johnnomar Alsina (0-4) was credited with the loss in this one, while Sophomore Dylan Ford and Freshman Joe Hendrick also got some work in on the mound.

The MUAC Baseball team will now spend the week finishing up classes before Spring Break, then they head to Florida on Friday (2/27) with 9 games scheduled over 7 days, beginning with a double-header against Jackson College scheduled for March 1st in Davenport (FL). Good luck to the Chargers as they enjoy better weather hopefully and the ability to play a lot of uninterrupted baseball for a week!!
