AUBURNDALE (FL) - Saturday morning, the Marian University Ancilla Baseball team wrapped up their 7-game Spring Break trip to Florida. Their opponent this time was Kirkwood Community College out of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Despite scoring 4 runs in the 1st inning, the Chargers fell, 16-5. Below is a quick scoring recap for the navy & gold.
Following leadoff walks by Sophomores Logan Clark and Jose Paris, fellow Sophomore Evan Lanphier hit a line drive on the first pitch he saw to center field, scoring Clark from second base. Next, on a 3-0 pitch, Sophomore Aayden Antoine was plunked by a pitch, and the bases were loaded.
Redshirt Freshman Owen Negron followed with a fielder's choice, and Paris was able to score, giving the Chargers their second run. Lanphier then scored on a passed ball, and a few pitches later, Negron scored on a wild pitch, accounting for the final two of the Chargers' four 1st-inning runs.
The Chargers would find their final run in the 6th inning, with a little help from the Eagles. Redshirt Freshman Javier Higham hit a 1-out single to left field, then advanced to second base on a wild pitch. Sophomore Kaleb Short hit a line drive single to right field, then an error during the play allowed Higham to cross the plate.
The baseball team returns today and has a double-header with Clark State College scheduled for tomorrow (3/9) at home. Pending field conditions, the games are slated to be played at 1:00p and 3:30p. Please come out and support the guys, if you are able!!
