Saturday afternoon marked the start of the Men's Basketball season for Marian University Ancilla, as the Chargers hosted #17 ranked Mid Michigan. While the Chargers showed flashes of an explosive offense, it was the Lakers size and physicality on the boards that ultimately sealed MUAC's fate, with Mid Michigan taking the win, 101-78.
The Chargers came out hot early, leading the contest 13-5. But the Lakers rallied to take a 52-38 halftime lead. Marian Ancilla would cut into that lead on multiple occasions early in the second half, however, Mid Michigan was able to pull away down the stretch, thanks to a 57-37 rebounding advantage, including collecting 15 caroms at their offensive end of the floor, leading to many second chance points.
Freshman guard Shawn Donaldson led the way for Marian Ancilla, scoring 24 points on 9-19 shooting, plus he hauled in 6 rebounds. Sophomore guard Kenneth Grant also scored in double figures with 17 points, including a 5-12 performance from beyond the arc. Freshman forward A'Marien Page nearly posted a double-double with 8 points and 10 rebounds, plus he had a monster tip-dunk to electrify the crowd in the second half.
The Chargers are next in action tomorrow, Wednesday (11/5), when they head to South Holland, Illinois, and South Suburban College to take on 5th year prep school Bosco Institute. Tipoff for that game is scheduled for 7:00p ET/6:00p CT. Please come out and support these young men, if you are able!!
