The Marian University Ancilla Men's Soccer team took on #13 Schoolcraft Wednesday evening, and what started out with some fireworks and a lot of back-and-forth, turned into a tough 5-1 loss for the Chargers.
Schoolcraft opened up the scoring early with a goal in the 4th minute, but the Chargers responded, as Freshman Bryce Black found Sophomore Victor Rodriguez for a tying score literally seconds later in the 5th minute. But the Ocelots answered quickly, scoring again in the 10th minute to take a 2-1 lead.
With all of the early scoring, the score seemed frozen at 2-1 for a while, but Schoolcraft was once again able to find the back of the net in the 34th minute, taking a 3-1 lead into the halftime break.
Shortly after the intermission, the Ocelots went on attack and scored their fourth goal in the 53rd minute, amassing a tough-to-overcome 4-1 advantage. The Chargers made a couple of nice runs during the next 20 minutes, but they couldn't capitalize once they got into scoring position. Schoolcraft would then add a final goal late, as they went up 5-1 in the 87th minute to end any hopes of a comeback.
The Chargers currently sit at 4-4-2 and are in the 4th position to once again attend the Region 12 tournament. Five teams advance to that tournament, and the Chargers have a big final match next Wednesday when they travel to Lakeland Community College in Kirtland, Ohio. That match is scheduled to begin at 4:00p, so please come out and support these young men, if you are able!!
