BENTON HARBOR (MI) - After a series of postponements and the rare week off between conference games, the Marian University Ancilla Women's Basketball team returned to action Wednesday night, when they faced off against the Lake Michigan Red Hawks. The game was fairly close throughout much of the first half, but the Chargers were able to pull away in the second half for a 65-41 victory.

Marian Ancilla struggled to find easy shots in the first half, but they were able to extend a small lead to a 31-24 margin by halftime. The second half saw a tougher, more aggressive Charger team take the floor, and they jumped out quickly to a 40-26 lead. LMC was able to trim that to 41-33 just a couple of minutes later, but the Chargers responded, stretching their lead to 48-33 by the end of three quarters before ultimately controlling the final period for the end result.

Sophomore Annika Davis was big in the second half, scoring a majority of her points in the final run that helped the Chargers extend their lead into the 20s. The 5-6 guard accrued 21 points, she was 3-7 from downtown, and she buried all 6 of her free throw tosses. Sophomore Aaliyah Keil, playing through the flu, managed to score 16 points and haul in 11 rebounds for an impressive double-double. The Chargers also got 7 points and 6 rebounds from Sophomore Audri Prater in a rare start, plus Sophomore Ga'Naysia White was big off the bench with 8 rebounds.

The Women's team now has a busy stretch in front of them, as they play 5 games in 8 days, starting with Kellogg Community College at home in the LifePlex tomorrow, Saturday (1/31), with a tip time of 1:00p. They return to the court Monday against Glen Oaks, Wednesday against Southwestern Michigan, Thursday against Andrews, then next Saturday at Glen Oaks. All but the last game are at home. Please come out and support the ladies, if you are able!!
