Men's Basketball Finishes 2025 Short-Handed, Wins Another

After an 0-8 month of November, primarily against ranked opponents, the Marian University Ancilla Men's Basketball team never quit in December, despite losing nearly half their roster due to various situations, but they battled and pounded out a 3-3 month to finish 2025 3-11. Last week, the Chargers hosted CBG Prep School on Monday (12/15) evening, then turned around and hosted Terra State Saturday (12/20) at the LifePlex in Plymouth. Below is a quick look at both outcomes, with some highlights from each.

vs. CBG Prep (W 115-88): The matchup with CBG was high-scoring, to say the least. On the evening, there were 80 total shots made between the two teams, 25 3-pointers, but only 18 free tosses. Despite allowing 21 offensive rebounds, the Chargers shot over 50% from the field and 40% from long range as a group. Freshman guard Omari Evans put on a show, burying 20 of his 34 shot attempts, including 5 from deep, leading all scorers with a whopping 47 points! Evans added 6 rebounds and 5 assists to his effort. Sophomore guard Kenneth Grant, who has been known for his shooting outbursts, added what seemed like a "quiet" 32 points next to Evans, including 8 bombs from deep. Grant nearly posted a double-double with 9 rebounds, plus he added 3 assists and 2 steals. Sophomore forward Michael Johnson Jr. was another near double-double performer, contributing 9 points and 12 rebounds, while Freshman guard Cristian Webster connected for 18 points, he dished out 7 assists, and he pulled down 6 rebounds as well.

vs. Terra State (L 97-77): Saturday, against the Titans, the Chargers did not shoot it nearly as well, they lost the rebounding battle 45-31, and the turnover battle 13-8. That helped Terra State slowly and consistently stretch the lead out until the final buzzer. Freshman Cristian Webster led the way this time with 25 points, plus he added 5 rebounds and 4 assists. There were four additional double-figure scorers, as Freshman Omari Evans (15 points), Sophomore Jason Sanders Jr. (12 points), Sophomore Kenneth Grant (11 points), and Sophomore Michael Johnson Jr. (11 points) each reached the mark. Johnson was also the team's leading rebounder with 6.

The Men's Basketball team now enjoys some time away, with their next contest coming on Saturday, January 3rd, at the College of DuPage, before returning to Plymouth with a home matchup against Community Christian on January 6th. Everyone have a happy holiday season, and please come out to support these young men, if you are able!!
