The Marian University Ancilla Volleyball team finished the first week of their season strong, as they participated in the Bethel University Tri-Match Invitational Friday evening. The Chargers first faced off against Dayspring Bible College, winning 2-0, then later returned to the floor to win 2-0 against the Bethel Pilots' Junior Varsity team. They were the only team in attendance to finish the evening with two wins, and they are now 3-0 overall on the season.
Versus Dayspring Bible College, the Chargers came out aggressive, taking care of the first set quickly, 25-6. Marian Ancilla posted an impressive 11 kills to just 1 error in the opening set. The second frame was a bit sloppier for the Chargers, even seeing DBC lead midway through. But MUAC rallied and finished off the Eagles by a 25-20 margin.
After resting for a bit and seeing DBC take on host Bethel, it was the Chargers' turn to play the Pilots. The first match was very back-and-forth, but MUAC pulled it out, 25-21. In the second set, while there was some change of possession early and late, the Chargers controlled the middle portion of the match, taking Set #2, 25-14. Marian Ancilla finished with 16 kills, 14 assists, and 9 aces in the win over Bethel.
Next up, the Marian Ancilla Volleyballers travel to Calumet College of St. Joseph for a 7:00 p.m. (ET) first serve on Monday (8/25). This will be a tough matchup for the Chargers, as CCSJ is a 4-year NAIA program with upperclassmen on their team. However, this year's 3 wins already matches last season's total, and they will attempt to continue their hot start to the season. Please come out and support the Chargers, if you are able!!
